Structure
Structural Design Criteria
Effective July 1, 2026, Summit County's design criteria for homes built under the IRC apply where the county issues the permit and include ground snow load from the Utah ground snow load map, wind speed, seismic design category, and frost line depth. Park City issues its own permits and publishes separate design criteria for work inside its city limits. The structural design of footings, framing, roofs, and decks follows the criteria of the office that issues the permit.

What Homeowners Ask
Summit County Remodeling and Permit Questions
Do you build in Park City?
Yes. Every service on this page is available in Park City.
Does snow load affect my project?
It does for projects with structural work, including decks, additions, and custom homes. The design must meet the snow and wind load criteria of the office that issues the permit, such as the Summit County Building Department or, inside city limits, the Park City Building Department.
When can construction start in Summit County?
Excavation and foundation work depend on the season. We set the start date during preconstruction with the weather window in mind.
