The city's ADU page also states that a second utility meter cannot be added for the ADU and that the Planning and Zoning Division must receive and process the ADU Predevelopment Application before a building permit may be processed. Utah's ADU statutes apply in South Salt Lake as well, as our ADU page explains.

Where We Build

South Salt Lake Remodeling and Permit Questions
What comes before the building permit for an ADU in South Salt Lake?
The ADU Predevelopment Application goes to the Planning and Zoning Division first. When the ADU needs a building permit, the predevelopment application includes a current title report and an ALTA survey, each issued within 30 days. The owner-occupancy affidavit is recorded with the Salt Lake County Recorder's Office before an ADU business license or building permit is approved.
How long does a South Salt Lake permit application stay valid?
The city's FAQ says applications are valid for only 180 days and that the applicant is responsible for providing a complete application and responding to the city's comments. We complete the application and answer each comment as part of the submittal.
How soon will South Salt Lake inspect my project?
Inspections are scheduled in the order the city receives the requests, and scheduling may take up to three business days. Each request names a morning window of 8:30 AM to noon or an afternoon window of noon to 3:30 PM. No work may be concealed until the inspection is approved, and the posted permit and the approved plans stay on site for every inspection.
