Marriott-Slaterville
Marriott-Slaterville Community Development Department
The department includes the Community Director, City Engineer, Building Official, and City Surveyor. Some of those positions are filled under contract with another entity. The city's Required Inspections checklist, dated March 30, 2022, calls for every approved document, including any engineering and calculations, the plot plan, building plans, specifications, and stamped truss sheets, to be on site for each inspection. A new home in Marriott-Slaterville meets the dark sky lighting standards of Chapter 15.23 of the city code. Additions totaling 25 percent or more of the gross floor area since the chapter took effect bring the entire property under those standards.

- A building permit application with the property address, lot number, and subdivision name; the names, phone numbers, and addresses of the contractor, the owner, and every subcontractor; and the Utah license number of the contractor and each subcontractor
- Two full sets of a site plan drawn to scale, with the lot dimensions and total square footage, a north arrow, easements for public utilities and drainage, and the buildable area
- The actual setbacks from every property line and the footprint of each structure
- The location of any retaining wall, with engineering for all retention more than 4 feet tall

- Structural calculations bearing original wet stamps and signatures
- A storm water pollution prevention plan for a building site larger than 1 acre or part of a common plan of development, with the Storm Water Checklist and Acknowledgment Letter
In that letter, dated January 2025, the permit holder agrees to follow the city's storm water regulations in Chapter 15.33 and the state statutes the letter cites, and chooses between electronic site inspections under Utah Code 19-5-108.3 and in-person visits by the City Inspector. On land the city's Sensitive Lands Overlay map designates, Section 14.06.020 adds its own standards to the permit review. Among them are a geotechnical engineer's study with mitigation measures for earthquake and liquefaction hazards and, where the water table is high, development limited to a floor level restriction, slab on grade, or crawl space, subject to engineering recommendations.

Accessory Dwelling Units
ADU Rules in Marriott-Slaterville
Section 13.26.360 of the Marriott-Slaterville Municipal Code, last amended by Ordinance 2024-04 on March 21, 2024, sets these conditions for internal ADUs, in its own order.
- A unit located in the primary dwelling and placed within its footprint as state law describes it when the ADU is created
- No vacation or short-term rental, with the unit used only for long-term residential tenancies of 30 consecutive days or longer
- No separate utility meter required for the ADU
- A design that does not change the primary dwelling's appearance as a single-family home
- One additional on-site parking space, whether the primary dwelling is existing or new construction, and replacement of all parking in a garage or carport converted to the ADU
- One ADU per primary dwelling, and none within a mobile home as Utah Code 57-16-3 defines it
- Every permit and license for the ADU obtained by the owner of the primary dwelling from the city and any other affected entity
- No ADU approved in any hazard area or flood plain
- No ADU approved where a failing septic tank serves the primary dwelling, as an inspection by a duly licensed professional determines
- No ADU on a primary dwelling lot of 6,000 square feet or less
- No external accessory dwelling units
- The primary dwelling also used as the owner's main residence
- A business license for the owner of the ADU
Ordinance 2024-04 put the hazard area and flood plain limit in the section, in place of an earlier bar on ADUs in any agriculture zone. Utah's ADU statutes apply in Marriott-Slaterville as well, as our ADU page explains.

Marriott-Slaterville Remodeling and Permit Questions
Can I build a detached ADU in Marriott-Slaterville?
No. Section 13.26.360 allows an ADU only within the footprint of the primary dwelling and bars external units. Utah's detached ADU statute does not apply to a fifth class city of under 5,000 people. An internal unit, such as a basement apartment, can be permitted on a lot larger than 6,000 square feet when the home is the owner's primary residence, subject to the section's other conditions.
How long is plan review in Marriott-Slaterville?
Marriott-Slaterville's Building Permit Portal states that applications will be reviewed within the next 3 to 5 business days. We file each one with the site plan and construction drawings the city's submittal checklist calls for, as well as any structural calculations the design requires.
What hours can construction run in Marriott-Slaterville?
Section 13.26.280 of the city code bars private construction of any kind from commencing before 7 AM or after 8 PM each day, unless an emergency or hazardous condition requires mitigation to avoid immediate or irreparable harm to life, property, or infrastructure. The same section calls for construction to be conducted in a way that minimizes disruption to the standard ambient noise level of a residential neighborhood.
