Davis County Permits and CitiesWhat Homeowners Ask
North Salt Lake Remodeling and Permit Questions
Can a North Salt Lake basement apartment take the whole basement?
Yes. Section 10-19-17(A) allows a basement dwelling unit to occupy the entire basement regardless of its area or bedroom count, in a single-family home where the owner lives full time in part of the house. The apartment needs the city's ADU land use permit in addition to any required building permit.
What does a hillside lot in North Salt Lake need before a permit?
In the Sensitive Lands Overlay Zone, the city's Geologic Hazard Investigation Application comes before any new building permit is applied for. For a new home there, the Permitting Process Quick Facts Sheet sets this order: a site plan approved by Planning and Zoning; a scoping meeting; a geotechnical report submitted to the city for review; the city's sign-off, which allows the footing excavation; and a soils observation report. Before the building permit is issued, Engineering checks that report for every item the geotechnical study requires.
When does North Salt Lake inspect construction?
Monday through Thursday, in a morning window from 8 AM to noon or an afternoon one from 1 to 4 PM, according to the city's Permitting Process Quick Facts Sheet. The sheet states that same-day inspections are not available and that a call on the day of the inspection gets a more specific time frame.
